Metal & Non Metal Flexible Conduit

Jan 4, 2020

Conduit is typically required where wiring is exposed or where it might be subject to damage.

A conduit can be made of METAL or PLASTIC and may be rigid or flexible. All conduit is installed with compatible fittings (couplings, elbows, connectors) and electrical boxes, usually made of the same or similar material.

Flexible conduit is specifically used in areas where it is not possible to use a rigid conduit.

Flexible Metal Conduit (FMC) & Fittings

Flexible metal conduit (FMC) has a spiral construction that makes it flexible so it can snake through walls and other structures. FMC ranging from 10mm to 75mm in size, manufactured in galvanised steel or stainless steel and with or without a range of coverings/overbraiding

Flexible metallic conduit is very usefull in the more complicated and more flexible wiring places.

Flexible metallic conduit used for Cable Protection from  Continuous Vibration, Weather, Vandalism, in some of the most demanding markets including Rail, Transport, Renewables, Utilities, Petrochemical, Data Networking and Food and Beverage sectors.

Flexible metallic conduit is made by the helical coiling of a self-interlocked ribbed strip of aluminum or steel, forming a hollow tube through which wires can be pulled.

National Electrical Code does allow metallic conduit and tubing to be used as an equipment grounding conductor, as long as it's installed properly. However, before using it as such in an existing installation, you should verify that it provides an adequate continuous path to ground.

  • Suitable for a range of applications including heavy duty
  • Maintains integrity of the system in extreme applications
  • Suitable for a diverse range of operating environments
  • Can withstand impact forces such as falling objects
  • Protection against electromagnetic interference
  • No risk of water or dust ingress, up to IP69

Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit (LTP) & Fittings

Liquid tight flexible metal conduits or LTP are used to cover cables which need both flexibility and protection from moisture.

It is a special type of flexible metal conduit that has a plastic coating, available in a wide variety of sizes, ranging from 10mm up to 106mm, and is used with sealed fittings to make it watertight. It is commonly used with outdoor equipment, such as air conditioner units, CCTV.
